Description
Please watch our video to learn more about P1, P2 and P3 cultures. This video is available in the ‘Video Guide’ tab.
The Portobello strain does not colonize standard grains like rye, millet, or wheat as efficiently as other species. For optimal results, we recommend using a custom grain blend that includes straw, compost, and grains to support early-stage mycelial growth. Follow the ratio provided below, bring the mix to field capacity, sterilize it thoroughly, and inoculate with liquid culture under sterile conditions.
We also offer ready-made Portobello Spawn which is highly popular and often sells out quickly.
59% sterilized grains (rye, millet, or wheat)
25% shredded straw
15% shredded compost or well aged cow or horse manure
1% Gypsum (for calcium and pH buffering)
